Exterior Fascia Restoration & Repaint

Most peeling fascia is repairable, and it was here — scraped back to sound wood, primed and repainted. Paint peeling off fascia is normally a coating failure rather than a wood failure, usually from moisture running behind it off a blocked gutter. Replacement is only warranted where the board has gone soft or is delaminating, and the honest test is whether a screwdriver pushes into it.

Because it sits directly under the roof edge and takes the most water of any board on the building. Every overflow, every ice dam and every blocked gutter runs across it, and it gets full sun on the exposed elevations. That is also why repainting fascia without fixing the gutter above it buys a season at most — the water source has to go first.

Matching them, as was done here with crisp white, is the safest choice because together they read as a single clean line along the roof. Contrasting fascia can work on a house with strong architectural detail, but on a straightforward lap-sided elevation it draws the eye to the roofline and emphasizes any waviness in the board. White fascia against sage-green window trim and gray siding keeps the roofline crisp and lets the trim carry the color.
